The Haunting

In the picturesque rural village of Warsaw NY stands the stately Gates House. Built by Horace Hollister, a carriage and sleigh maker in 1824, The Gates House is a post colonial home which still sports its original façade.

Seth Merrill Gates the abolitionist and his family moved into the home in 1844 and he still visits to this day. He can be heard calling for two of his daughters who passed in the home at a young age.

The home was also a stop on the Underground Railroad for 15 years. Mr. Gates was known to hide slaves who were seeking freedom in the attic and basement. Could those be the footsteps often heard in the house? Disembodied voices in the kitchen, cold spots in the basement, shadow people and apparitions in the parlor, mischievous children have all been experienced at The Gates House.
