The Old Dutch Church cemetery dates back to 1658, so it has witnessed many different groups of people – Dutch Settlers, Native Americans, African American slaves and servants, and British soldiers. The cemetery is the final resting place of many Revolutionary Kingstonians whose homes were burnt by the British in 1777, as well as George Clinton, the first governor of New York.
Each year, Theatre on the Road in collaboration with Old Dutch Church presents a living history tour, telling the stories of the former residents of Kingston, their quirky lives and often haunting tales. These hour-long haunted history tours of the cemetery are entertaining and educational. Participants move through the cemetery, following lit candles, as they step back in time and come face-to-face with ghosts from long ago.
