Hyde Hall
The Haunting
For more than 100 years, Hyde Hall has been steeped in chilling tales and unexplained encounters. Owned and cared for by the same family for five generations, this 22,000-square-foot mansion has witnessed its share of haunting moments. When its builder, George Clarke, died in 1835, many believe he never truly departed his grand Neo-classical estate—and he’s far from the only presence said to remain. Footsteps echo through the halls, whispers drift along the corridors, phantom knocking breaks the silence, and some visitors have even reported hearing distant music and seeing full-bodied apparitions.
This year’s haunted tours unveil newly uncovered stories and recently shared experiences that deepen the mystery of Hyde Hall. From fresh eyewitness accounts to old legends brought back to light, each tour offers new reasons to look over your shoulder and question what lingers just beyond your view.
A designated National Historic Landmark and New York State Historic Site, Hyde Hall also
preserves an extraordinary collection of original furnishings from 1817–1835—offering guests an authentic glimpse into the past… and perhaps a brush with those who never left it.
