The Haunting
The Lake George Historical Association Museum is housed in the former Warren County Courthouse and Jail, built in 1845 on land once used by French military forces during the French and Indian War. The imposing brick building served as a courthouse and jail until 1963, with original jail cells still intact in the basement. Its long history of justice, imprisonment, and conflict has made it one of the most paranormally active buildings in the region.
Visitors and staff report frequent unexplained activity throughout all three floors of the museum, with the basement jail cells considered a hotspot. Reported spirits include former prisoners, children, a Colonial-era sentry, and the ghostly figures of two young girls believed to be the daughters of a former jailer who drowned nearby in the early 1900s. Guests commonly describe shadow figures, disembodied footsteps, heavy or suffocating sensations in the basement, and apparitions appearing where no physical exit exists.
