Five Chilling New Stops Join the Haunted History Trail of New York State

New York State’s paranormal landscape just got even more intriguing. The Haunted History Trail of New York State has welcomed five new haunted destinations to its ever-growing family of ghosts, legends, and lingering spirits.

From an 1884 former rectory in Ogdensburg to a nationally known haunted farmhouse in Cattaraugus County, these additions offer ghost tours, overnight stays, paranormal investigations, and historic museum experiences across New York.

So, dust off your EMF meter, charge your flashlight, and perhaps leave a light on when you return home. These new stops have stories to tell...and some of their residents may be eager to tell them personally.

The Claire House B&B: Check in… If You Dare

Looking for a haunted bed and breakfast with a few extra guests? The Claire House B&B delivers historic charm with a healthy dose of the unexplained.

The Claire House B&B is a beautifully restored 1884 former rectory with a rich religious history and an equally compelling reputation for ghostly activity. This former rectory welcomed priests, nuns, orphans, and, according to many visitors, a few residents who never quite checked out.

Guests have reported encounters with former Bishop Joseph H. Conroy, Mrs. Gardner—a mysterious figure known as the “Skeleton-Faced Lady”—and even the spirit of a playful little girl roaming the halls.

Visitors can choose from overnight stays, guided ghost tours, or immersive paranormal investigations that provide access to some of the property’s most active areas. Don’t be surprised if you hear footsteps when no one else is around.

Frederic Remington Art Museum: Where Art and Apparitions Meet

By day, the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg celebrates one of America's most renowned Western artists. By night? Well, let's just say some visitors wonder if the building's history is still creating new masterpieces.

Housed in a structure dating back more than two centuries, the museum is filled with history, artistry, and an atmosphere that feels almost suspended in time. As you wander through galleries filled with Remington's iconic works, keep an eye out for shadows that move just a little too quickly and rooms that hold whispers from Eva Remington and Ameriga Vespucci.

The Haunted Hinsdale House: New York’s Most Infamous Haunted Home

Few places in New York paranormal lore are as legendary as the Haunted Hinsdale House. Located in Cattaraugus County, the modest farmhouse has earned a national reputation for reports of apparitions, unexplained lights, disembodied voices, and unsettling encounters stretching back more than fifty years. The property gained widespread attention after the Dandy family’s experiences in the 1970s and has since been featured on numerous television programs and paranormal investigations.

Housed inside the former Warren County Courthouse and Jail, the Lake George Historical Association Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the area's past... and perhaps a few lingering residents from it. Built in 1845, the building served as a center of law and incarceration for more than a century, leaving behind stories that some believe never truly ended.

Staff and visitors have reported shadow figures, unexplained footsteps, and encounters with apparitions believed to include former prisoners, children, and even a Colonial-era sentry. The museum’s preserved jail cells are said to be among the most active areas, making ghost tours and paranormal events especially popular among visitors seeking a glimpse into the building’s haunted past.

Wildwood Sanitarium: A Portal to the Paranormal

Originally opened in 1906 as a holistic healing center, Wildwood Sanitarium in Salamanca has undergone many transformations over the last century, serving as a sanitarium, tuberculosis clinic, and residential property.
