The Haunting

The Hinsdale House is arguably the most famous haunted house in New York State. Strange activity was first reported on-site in the early 1970s, after the Dandy family moved in. The family claimed lights turned on and off by themselves, chanting could be heard from the woods, and several apparitions appeared during their time there. Once the hauntings turned violent, the family resorted to calling a priest in to perform an exorcism on the house. The priest was unsuccessful, and the family eventually moved out. Several other families attempted to live in the house, but all were ultimately chased away.

Today, the home belongs to paranormal investigator Dan Klaes, who uses it as a research facility. The spirits are still there, and he has uncovered more to the history of the house, including events that have happened on the property. Klaes wrote a book about his experiences, Hinsdale House: An American Haunting, which was released in 2016. The house has been on national TV several times: Destination America’s Paranormal Lockdown in April 2016 and TLC’s Halloween special of Paranormal Lockdown in October 2016.
