Sweet Dreams or Ghostly Screams:Haunted Overnights for the Paranormal Fan

Are you afraid of the dark? Find out when you spend an evening at these haunted inns and experience the things that go bump in the night. You may just mingle with guests who once checked in, but never checked back out...

The Historic Hotel Broadalbin, formerly the Kennyetto Inn, in Broadalbin, NY has lived many lives as many things and definitely seen its fair share of history. It started as glove factory in 1854 before the building was transformed a Keeley Cure inebriate hospital in 1895, a commercial medical operation that offered treatment to alcoholics. Eventually, the mainstream medical profession stated that the "cure" was "unmitigated charlatanry and quackery." As a result, some patients suffered blindness and pain... and even death. Visitors have soldiers standing at the top of the staircase, figures in the windows, and felt something poke them in the middle of the night. Most recently a lamp that has stood in the same place for over five years fell down, as if pushed by an unseen force.

Of all the buildings in Medina, NY the Hart House Hotel likely had more souls tread over its threshold than any other building in town. And with a long, storied past, original floors, and intact historic windows, it's no surprise that this building is haunted. People have reported hearing names called aloud when no one is around but the spirit seen most often is a woman in a long, flowing dress with shoulder-length brown hair that stands at the top of the first staircase and greets visitors unexpectedly. Tuck yourself in to the Hart House Hotel or dine at the Shirt Factory Cafe and see who may still be lingering around after all this time...

The Naples Hotel has been home to countless travelers since 1895 – some of whom simply didn’t leave. Located in Naples, NY, this 32-room hotel is home to six ghosts – a woman with her four children and a gentleman named Topper. They like to have fun with the guests by moving pictures, playing with the lights, and locking doors! Prefer to explore during the daylight? Private ghost tours are available by appointment, or you can listen to ghost stories from the staff while dining at the hotel’s restaurant or grabbing a drink in the hotel’s hidden bar.

You may choose to keep the lights on when you hit the hay at Burn Brae Mansion, located in Glen Spey, NY. Following the renovations that took place for the mansion’s 100-year anniversary, overnight guests staying where the original servants’ quarters once stood began reporting unusual sights and sounds. Numerous paranormal investigations have found ethereal evidence, including recorded voices and wails, and feelings of pressure and cold patches.  It’s no wonder Linda Blair from “The Exorcist” calls Burn Brae one of her favorite places to stay when she’s in the Catskills. See the spooky for yourself when you book an overnight, conduct a group investigation (available by appointment), or attend one of the mansion’s special events.
