About

Nestled in the southwestern corner of New York State, Chautauqua County borders Pennsylvania to the south and Lake Erie to the north and west. With five lakes and approximately fifty miles of Lake Erie shoreline, there is no place in the county more than 20 minutes from open water. The county takes its name from the largest inland lake, which was called "Jad-dah'gwah" by its native inhabitants. For over 140 over years, Chautauqua has been a destination for vacation learning, a place for personal growth that engages the mind, body and spirit.
Learn, laugh, and play in Chautauqua with lakes and outdoor fun, grape country and wineries, the Chautauqua Institution, Lucy-Desi Center for Comedy, Peek'n Peak Resort & Spa, and lots of leisure learning.
