By Doug Sitler, Haunted History Trail of New York State
I recently had the wonderful pleasure of visiting the Dunkirk Lighthouse (Chautauqua/Allegheny region/Chautauqua County) high above the shores of Lake Erie in the city of Dunkirk. As part of our visit, we made an informative video with lighthouse volunteer and good guy, Dave Briska. I also took a few photographs and wanted to share them to give you a sense of place at the Dunkirk Lighthouse and a few activities in which we participated.
On a Saturday evening, we joined about thirty people who attended the lighthouse ghost tour and investigation. The lighthouse itself is situated on a cliff 30 feet above Lake Erie, once guiding boats and passengers to safety or port. Today, there is a historical museum and both indoor and outdoor collections of military items.
The evening included a tour of the historic 65 foot tall lighthouse and ghost investigations with volunteer ghost hunters. In addition to Dave Briska, Don Traynor of Village Haunts was on hand for some very interesting Q & A and was an excellent and knowledgeable hosts who’ve created a great evening for those who are both history and paranormal bugs.
Here are a few photos from our visit.
