Spooky Spots That Send Shivers Down Your Spine…

If you’re intrigued by the otherworldly but just want to dip your toe in the paranormal waters, these spooky spots might be perfect for you! You can explore these locations on your own time without joining a tour or investigation, allowing you to create a haunted experience all your own.

In Rochester, there is lore of “The White Lady”an apparition that has been seen along the roadways of the Durand Eastman Park. They mystery remains as to who she is or what her story could be, perhaps adding to the park’s eerie mystique—but what remains true is that visions of this woman have appeared to many visitors over the years. Will you see her?

In 1918, the Split Rock munitions plant in Syracuse, NY unexpectedly exploded, the results treacherous: more than 50 men were killed, and all that stands today are rock ruins and an old piece of machinery, ominously called the Crusher. The location is essentially a ghost of its past and is open for exploration by those who want to experience its history. Visitors have reported hearing the sound of footsteps, distant voices and the revving of the defunct Crusher’s engine. What will you encounter when you hike the former factory site and explore the abandoned tunnels?

WARNING:

Split Rock Quarry is an abandoned location in the woods; should you decide to visit, it will be at your own risk. We strongly encourage you to not venture in alone, and to wear appropriate footwear for the hike to the location.

Those who make their way to Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, are in for a unique experience that sparks curiosity about the past lives of those interred there. We invite you to stroll through its well-maintained landscape, pay respects to notable figures such as famed writer Mark Twain, or wander with the spirits that may linger among the headstones that mark the final resting place of many. There have been accounts of unexplained cold spots, shadowy figures, phantom footsteps and a spectral woman in period attire. Explore the cemetery on your own during normal hours of operation or join the Chemung County Historical Society during the fall for guided ghost walks.

This one is somewhat of a tearjerker About ten years after marrying her husband, Susan Thomas would be widowed, left to tend to her farm and raise children on her own. When she died, she was buried a separate cemetery from her family plot (which was on its way to ruin at the time). But her ghost was left unsettled in the afterlife. The apparition of Widow Susan has been seen crying along this road, in distress and searching desperately for her husband’s grave, unsure of why she was kept apart from him. It is believed that if you say “Widow Susan” three times, her apparition will appear and strange things happen along this stretch of road in rural Amsterdam, NY.
