Every Sunday afternoon from April to December the Van Horn Mansion (Greater Niagara/Niagara County), the Newfane Historical Society offers $5 tours of the historical mansion and its ghostly past. Once on the verge of being knocked down, the restored mansion serves as a museum and events space. Throughout the rooms you find examples of life in the 1800's, with original furniture, clothing, toys and family history. We were escorted by a terrific docent and long-time dedicated volunteer, Rose. She and her knowledgeable daughters conduct most of the Sunday tours. Rose says she tries to judge each tour about how in-depth to talk about the ghost stories, especially if there are small children. If people are curious, she'll give them the lowdown on the apparitions, disembodied voices, and other paranormal happenings both inside and outside the house.
