In early May, my journeys took me up to northern New York to the beautiful Seaway Trail/Thousand Island region. I met up with Cam Hoffberg, owner of Thousand Islands Ghost Tours on a warm, sunny morning in Alexandria Bay. Ghost tours are a wonderful thing. By participating in a ghost walk in any given city, you get to learn the history, and the people through it's hauntings. Sitting on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, Alexandria Bay has an allure for both the living and the dead.
In Alexandria Bay, Cam hosts public ghost tours mostly in the warmer months, especially multiple nights a week in the summer when the town is hopping. There are two tours, including one that ends in the local cemetery. Participants will hear about various hauntings throughout the town and down on the river's edge. One of the things I appreciated is Cam's philosophy of keeping the tours family-friendly - no blood and guts on this here. On the tour, children can borrow an little lantern with an LED candle inside. My visit with Cam was a fun experience She loves Alexandria Bay, the history and the ghostly stuff, which makes her an excellent host.
