Tasting Rooms with a Supernatural Guest List

At these haunted wineries, taprooms, and tasting rooms, past residents seem unwilling to leave. From the tragic echoes of a family manor to spectral figures roaming historic inns, each sip comes with a story (and sometimes, an unexpected guest!). Glasses tip with unseen hands, ghostly voices murmur through the air, and shadowy figures drift through tasting rooms as if they still belong. Whether you're raising a toast in a 19th-century manor, a historic tavern, or a vineyard with a ghostly past, these places prove that some spirits only grow stronger with time.

Winery at Marjim Manor

This historic 19th-century manor, set in Appleton on the shores of Lake Ontario, was built by Shubal Scudder Merritt… and is steeped in ghostly lore. Most famous is the tragic tale of Merritt accidentally shooting his son Lewis! Visitors have reported seeing a Victorian boy in the very doorway where Lewis died and hearing the eerie question, “Who’s in my house?” With lights that turn on by themselves and wine bottles mysteriously toppling from shelves, the manor offers more than just award-winning fruit and grape wines—it’s a Treasure Beyond Measure for those who love history, hauntings, and a good pour.

Woodland Farm Brewery Taproom at The Hulbert House

Built in 1812, the historic Hulbert House in Boonville has hosted notable guests—including President Ulysses S. Grant—but it’s the spirits of past residents that truly linger. Paranormal teams, including SyFy’s Haunted Collector, have documented eerie encounters, from a Civil War soldier named Wayne roaming the bar and second floor to ghostly children playing upstairs. Investigators have also captured the image of a small girl and experienced interactions with an older woman on the third floor. Stop in for a pint and a spooky story… or two.

Grapevine Farms

Built in 1850 as a working farm, this Cobleskill property took on a paranormal twist when transformed into a gift shop, bistro, and wine cellar in 2002. Guests and staff have reported eerie encounters, from ghostly apparitions to recorded voices and unexplained footsteps on the vintage staircase. Psychic Katie Manning even confirmed the presence of lingering spirits, possibly former residents David Hiltz and his wife. Stop by to shop, enjoy a bistro lunch, and indulge in a complimentary wine tasting—just don’t be surprised if you hear ghostly children running through the halls!
